ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Whether you’re looking to try a new medium or simply want to play around and get your creative juices flowing, this workshop will give you all the tools you need to create your own abstract art.
You will learn the basics of working with alcohol inks on non-absorbent yupo paper, along with all my tried and true techniques for working in this medium. A note: this medium can be tricky since alcohol inks have a mind of their own, but that’s also half the fun!
Although a list of supplies is below, often people spend the class observing and taking notes. So technically no materials are required if that is your preference. Feel free to paint along or watch and engage, whichever suits your learning style.
This intro class will cover:
- How to use the basic supplies and tools
- How to find inspiration and successful color schemes
- My tried and true methods for achieving specific results based on which pieces of mine you are most drawn to.
- Spray sealants to varnish your work
Supplies are NOT included but you may want to get the following:
- 91% (preferable) alcohol - I get mine at Target
- At least 3 alcohol inks. Ranger brand are my favorite and what Ill be instructing the class with, but you can also use Pinata, Brea Reese, Copic or T-Rex
- Yupo or Nara paper - This is a non-porous surface that allows the inks to flow easily
- A smoothie straw
- A couple pipettes or eyedroppers - I get mine off Amazon
- A few watercolor rounded brushes (not required but recommended)
- A small cup or glass jar to hold alcohol
- A small mister or spray bottle - I get mine off Amazon (not required but recommended)
- Paper towels and something to protect your work surface
This 1.5 hour class will be held over ZOOM on Saturday, September 14th at 10am PST, so you can choose to watch on your phone or computer. The rate for the class is $90/1.5hr and is split into a 60 min session where I demonstrate techniques and share tips and then a 30 min Q&A. The class will have multiple students and will be an open forum to ask questions as we go. I would like for everyone to feel like they can speak up and get clarification on anything I am teaching. I have found this setup to be super successful and I look forward to meeting you on the call!
Add the Saturday, September 14th zoom workshop to your cart. A confirmation email with the zoom link will be sent prior to class. Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions. Im looking forward to seeing you there!
